I find it unfortunate that the business and political interests have annexed libertarianism in order to get away with doing whatever they want, and they have fooled the public into thinking that personal freedoms and corporate freedoms are even remotely similar.Lomaxnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736710836822314675.post-76448489412602151092010-10-29T08:13:32.761-04:002010-10-29T08:13:32.761-04:00Since we could debate all day, all year and probab...Since we could debate all day, all year and probably all lifetime on politics, and nothing would be accomplished, other then everyone being frustrated, I am very hesitant to go further into a losing battle.

But, I do have to say, that anyone who thinks they have all of the only answers to any problem IS naive. NO one should be allowed to set themselves up as "knowing" whats best for the average person and MAKING them do it regardless of that average person's desires - if that means political anarchy then so be it (tho if you read the Libertarian platform that is not what they desire).

If I want to take away others freedoms then I have to be willing to lose mine, and I am not.Kathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07315514209178215840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736710836822314675.post-46598358544284085642010-10-29T07:52:39.845-04:002010-10-29T07:52:39.845-04:00I'm sure there's churches out there that p...I'm sure there's churches out there that promote swinging or at very least "free love," especially on the west coast. Plenty of churches and religions promote it in a misogynistic way, saying it's okay for the men to do it. Plenty of eastern religions don't have the hypocritical views on sex. In fact, I'd argue that it's almost exclusively an American issue.

Would most churches say it's okay on the pulpit? No, of course not, but they'd also say porn is wrong and the most porn sold per capita is in Utah. For an interesting perspective on sexual values in the US I suggest the book "America Unzipped" by Brian Alexander. I picked it up for $2 on the B&N discount shelf. And the libchrist site can provide more direct bible study about sex, much more often pointing out the fact that most of the things the bible supposedly says negatively about sex aren't even there.

As for the political slant, conservative by its very definition means resistant to or against change. That was the label you chose to use. I never mentioned political parties, nor would I. I know just as many democrats that will censor "for the good of the children" as republicans who will "because it's wrong."

As for libertarians, philosophical rule by the elite dates back to Plato and is find and dandy as long as you are part of that elite. "Government bad me good" isn't a political system, that's anarchy. We all want safe streets, safe schools, safe food, and so on, and no, having a gun collection isn't going to provide any of that for you. I know the "screw my neighbor" attitude seems to extend these days outside of swinging and into politics, and while that may not be closed minded, it's naive to think that it will be good in the long run for the average person. But then again, no one likes to think they are average.Lomaxhttp://www.libchrist.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736710836822314675.post-80047564136670411622010-10-29T06:29:51.625-04:002010-10-29T06:29:51.625-04:00I think it's funny conservative is somehow syn...I think it's funny conservative is somehow synonymous with close minded here. My official label in the political arena is "Libertarian" and I doubt they can be considered close minded even by the worst of the lefty democrats. Only in the USA do people confuse conservative and liberal with democrat and republican. They are not the same terms.

All I want politically is a little government as possible interfering with as little of my life as possible. I don't want them telling me what to do in my sex life AND I don't want them telling businesses who they have to hire or that I can't own my gun.

I don't know what the definition of close minded is here, but I think wanting to allow everyone the freedom (whether personally or corporately) to do whatever THEY determine is right for them, isn't really close minded in my opinion.

I understand that there are sects of christianity which may differ, but I am willing to bet cash that if you go into all different denominations of christian churches in my town (probably at least a dozen different denominations) and ask a sampling of the christians in each church and they would tell you that swinging isn't compatible with the Bible that they know.

But, that's just my bet.

SerenaDante, I bet that is one of the verses used to allow swinging under the Bible :-)

I would like to know what others people think could be used. And, if there is any denomination that actually preaches swinging to their congregation as a biblical way of life...Kathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07315514209178215840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736710836822314675.post-43103643005205021272010-10-28T23:07:54.205-04:002010-10-28T23:07:54.205-04:00I think it's important to remember that even s...I think it's important to remember that even some very staunch Christians believe that the Bible should not be interpreted completely literally. Perhaps they felt it was completely the morally right thing to do because of the part of the Bible that says "love thy neighbor."SerenaDantehttp://serenadante.xanga.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736710836822314675.post-21561607164277749312010-10-28T22:16:28.471-04:002010-10-28T22:16:28.471-04:00Unfortunately, none of the other Betty Bowers vide...Unfortunately, none of the other Betty Bowers videos are nearly as funny as that one. And while it is all played for effect, it's all taken directly from the bible.

As I said, I obviously don't know the details of that specific couple, and they may well be complete hypocrites. From your further description, it sounds like they had plenty of issues completely unrelated to religion. But that wasn't the topic at hand.

Again, just because your experience with Christianity was in a specific form, doesn't mean that's a catchall for everyone who may choose to believe. The vast majority of Christians would call Falwell and his ilk extremists who don't speak for them. Bowers, Heinlein, and Mormons are just a small selection of people who can point out that the bible hardly has the clear and restrictive point of view regarding sex and marriage that groups like fundamentalists would have you believe.

One of the best sites that has further information on this specific topic is http://www.libchrist.com/ (linked on my name) they have done much more research and can give you more information than I could paraphrase here.

Incidentally, most of the pagans/heathens I know are either monogamous or polyamorous and believe in love and fidelity within the relationship bounds and often look down on swingers.

Personally, I find the dichotomy between religion and swinging much smaller than the idea that people would be open minded sexually but then conservative and closed minded politically.Lomaxhttp://www.libchrist.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736710836822314675.post-62694085548216143182010-10-28T21:01:02.687-04:002010-10-28T21:01:02.687-04:00I LOVED that video link! I am in the South and I am a conservative - politically.

However, I was raised (read brainwashed) by the Southern Baptists - and am now Pagan. You may be correct that there are other versions of christianity that interpret the Bible in some way in order to allow adultery and swinging. Obviously so since this couple and others like them apparently exist.

The christianity and the bible I grew up knowing had no wiggle room in it. Anyone who disagreed with the the preached doctrine (even "so-called christians") were going to end up in HELL. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Hence my questions of "HOW and WHY can a christian be a swinger" in this blog?

The blog may be written for entertainment in a semi-sarcastic tone, but I am honestly curious, because NOTHING that I know about the bible and christianity (outside of just being a hypocrite) would allow fucking your neighbor - under any circumstances other then if you are both single, virginal people who have decided to get married.

And, no, I don't believe it's hypocritical of me to want an answer to this very valid question. I do NOT have a problem with their religion NOR with them swinging.

But, if you don't want me to think you're a hypocrite then you cant in one breath talk about how much control you have over your household and how all you have to do is raise your hand and your kids fall in line, all the while your kids are running rampage on us as your guests and your woman spends 95% of the time we are visiting chasing them around and trying to get them to go to bed - to the extent that we NEVER get around to swinging because your household is completely out of control.

If you don't want me to think you're a hypocrite then you should tell my man you want him to train your man at the gym so that he looks like hugh jackman - and then cuss my man out for spending too much time with your man.

And, if you are going to call yourself a christian and send me come-to-jesus propaganda then you canNOT also be trying to fuck me, even to the extent of trying to do so behind your wife's back.

Now do you think it's hypocritical of me to want to know why I shouldn't consider them hypocritical? :-P

Now I must go find other Betty Bower videos to amuse myself with... thanks for pointing me towards her entertainment! :-)Kathttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07315514209178215840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6736710836822314675.post-84659830172526261762010-10-28T20:20:39.636-04:002010-10-28T20:20:39.636-04:00The majority of swingers (especially in southern a...The majority of swingers (especially in southern areas) are conservative and the vast majority identify themselves as religious. While your perception of Christianity may be one of requiring guilt and suppression of sex, many don't share that point of view. I'd suggest Heinlein's "Stranger in a Strange Land" as a point of reference.

To turn it around, isn't it a bit hypocritical to say you don't have a problem with religion but judge them not just on their faith, but because their way of practicing that faith isn't in line with how you think it should be? This isn't to say that the particular couple you met may not be hypocrites for any number of reasons of course.

And as for the biblical view of things like sex and marriage, I point you to the same place I point everyone, Betty Bowers Guide to Traditional Marriage (link is on my name or search youtube).Lomaxhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFkeKKszXTwnoreply@blogger.com
